Alert Center - Security Notice Phishing Scam

City of Afton is aware of an email phishing scam.

Scammers are sending fake emails impersonating City of Afton.  City of Afton is aware that scammers are impersonating City staff and attempting to trick individuals into engaging with them in some instances requesting payment via wire transfer or ACH. The scammers are sending phishing emails from Planningdpt.AftonCity.gov@usa.com.  This email address is not associated with the City of Afton.  The City of Afton's domain is: https://aftonmn.gov/.

What to do:

1. Be extremely vigilant.
2. Do NOT make any wire transfers or ACH payments.  The City will never request a wire transfer and payments can be made only through the link on our website at:  https://aftonmn.gov or by mailing or dropping off a check at city hall.
3. Verify the email domain of any emails that appear to come from City of Afton They may be emails from a fake domain.
4. Do not open or click on any emails from @usa.com.
5. Report any emails coming from @usa.com using your email provider’s reporting tools.
